MFA Candidate: Studio Art

Joe Taylor is a ceramic sculptor whose work uses formal aesthetic techniques to address issues of place, identity, work and control. Taylor was born in Reno, Nevada and attended Sierra Nevada University which is situated in the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains. After completing his Bachelor of Fine Arts in New Genres, Drawing and Painting, Taylor worked a job as an art educator in a k-12 school that specialized in pushing students’ comfort level as a means of creating memorable learning. Taylor continued to make and show his artwork while employed at the school for fifteen years before pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts at the University of Montana in Missoula. Taylor’s ceramic work explores the ebb and flow of humankind’s relationship with nature, as we perceive it as a power to align with or as a source of resources to be exploited.
