Emily Graslie got her BFA in painting (2014), and now focuses her creativity on making science accessible to a broader audience. She hosts the Youtube channel “The Brain Scoop” for the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, with over half a million subscribers. She also produces and hosts the television show “Prehistoric Road Trip”, which airs nationally on PBS Fall 2020. In 2017, she had a butterfly named in her honor.

Even though now working in the sciences, Emily credits her art training as an important factor in her current career:

“It does amaze me how oddly but perfectly my background as a student in studio art has helped me become a more effective communicator of science. I love that I get to be creative in my current job even if it doesn’t involve mixing paint!”
