My name is Jake Zeimet and I graduated from the University of Montana in 2019 with my Master’s in Education with teaching certificates in Art Education, History Education, and International Baccalaureate program. During my time at the U of M I was president of the NEA Aspiring Educators group, I was awarded the 2019 MAEA Higher Education Student Achievement Award and the 2019 University of Montana’s Marlene Bachmann Student Teacher Award for excellence and high achievement.

I was hired last year at Sumner Academy of Arts and Sciences in Kansas City, KS, where I also did my student teaching in the Spring of 2019. Sumner Academy is a public magnet school and International Baccalaureate World School. The school is located in a Title 1 district where over 40 different home languages are spoken. It was also ranked the number one school in Kansas & KC Metro areas, as well as being ranked 50th in the country by US News. I just completed my first year here at Sumner where I teach IB Visual Arts, sculpture, and American history. I am also a cheerleading coach and a sponsor for the LGBTQ club at the school.

‘The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.’ ― William Arthur Ward
