Sarah Jones, Adjunct Assistant Professor (Drawing, Painting)
Originally from Utah, Sarah Jones received her BFA from the University of
Utah and MFA from the School of Visual Art in NYC. Jones was an
instructor of art and women’s studies at Northern Arizona University,
Prescott College and Coconino College and for a decade spent her
summers as a Grand Canyon river guide. From 2002 to 2020 Jones made
her home in Seattle, Washington where she raised her two children and
set up studio. Her work has been exhibited throughout the West. She was
awarded residencies at Ucross Foundation, Haystack School of Craft,
Bloedel Creative Residency, the Oak Spring Garden Foundation, and the
Laura Grace Barrett Printmaking Residency at the Zootown Arts
Community Center. Jones is the recipient of the Vermont Studio Center
Fellowship, the Seattle Artist Trust Gap Grant, and Oak Spring Foundation
Artist Grant.
What is hard to see and ways of chronicling loss are consistent themes in
Sarah Jones’ work. Currently the work explores the difficulty of seeing and
comprehending climate change.
